Datablocks joins the Circular Drive Initiative 🌱

Background

According to a co-authored white paper by Chia Network, Seagate Technology and Western Digital, an estimate of 90% of the hard drives sold today are getting destroyed at the end of first use. In 2021 alone, the industry shipped 259 million hard drives (127 million kg!), and this number is expected to grow by almost 20% by 2026, reaching over 3 Zettabytes of HDD sales per year. [source]

Reducing e-waste by giving storage hardware a second life.

The destruction of this still functioning hardware must go down - and can go down - because data sanitation techniques are readily available, and tackle the excuse to not reuse well functioning - and tested - storage hardware.

Datablocks joins the Circular Drive Initiative to contribute and make an impact in the circular economy by offering businesses an alternative with our Seagate hard drives.

The Circular Drive Initiative - driving the circular economy for storage
The Circular Drive Initiative is a partnership of global leaders in digital storage, data centers, sustainability, and blockchain collaborating to reduce e-waste by enabling, driving, and promoting the secure reuse of storage hardware.

The CDI was convened under the leadership of William McDonough, Chief Executive of McDonough Innovation and the renowned architect of Cradle to Cradle design and The Circular Economy, which brings circular design principles and reporting to data storage in the ICT industry.
